Sounds like you'd just bolt right up to the Isuzu tranny. The MUA doesn't have a detachable bellhousing. The Dakota bellhousing is, in the above, being used as an excercise to show that if it will bolt to a GM 60 deg V6 and also to an Isuzu-V6, then by intuition a GM 60 deg V6 motor will bolt right up to the Isuzu tranny. ?yes?

BTW this is somewhat reminiscent of an earlier post of mine:

Roll Me Over
So much great info! Sorry to hijak the thread, but does anyone know of a good website for 3.8/3800 info such as dyno sheets? I've been searching, and keep coming up with Buick performance and consumer report websites, not exactly what I'm looking for.

Anyone think the flywheel from a 2.8 would bolt up to a 3.8 crank? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/coolg.gif" alt="" /> I can hope.... right?

This might be a good place to start:

Regarding the flywheel, it's anybody's guess, but I venture you could have the 2.8 flywheel's holes plugged and redrilled to match if you couldn't find a 3800 flywheel that would work.

I've got some 3800 links laying around I'll have to post here pretty soon. I believe they use a 3.8 flywheel from a Firebird and have it match ballanced to the Buick's Flexplate. Or at least that sounded like the cheapest / easiest rout to go from what I've read. Someone is doing custom flywheels but they're to the tune of $300-$400 as I recall. I haven't read about any kind of a direct swap from another vehicle though that's ballanced correctly. I'll dig up the links and post them later today or tomorrow a.m.

Jerry L. has done more checking on the fitment of a GM 60 deg V6 to the Gen II's tranny bolt pattern, here's a link to his post at the ITOG Delphi site:

thought I'd btt this and add a little info that i got elsewhere:

If you want to hook up a Toyota transmission to a GM 3.4 V6 or any other engine with the GM 60 degree bellhousing bolt pattern, you need:

Bellhousing from the 87-99 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L. Hooks up to any G series or W series Toyota tranny.

Bellhousing from 96-00 Dodge Dakota 2.5L. Hooks up to any R series Toyota tranny

Also, you can run a 3.4 > 904 auto > dana 300/atlas with no adapters!

just have to use the AMC eagle auto. I believe you can use one of the 904's from a cherokee, but you'd have to swap over some stuff from a cj 904 to mate up a d300

enjoy!

Can we just back up for a minute?

Not being familiar with American vehicles... the talk of 3.8's is getting me confused here. Some are referring to Buick, some to Olds., some to Chev., and others, in more general terms, to GM. Are these all the same engine, utilizing the same bolt pattern?

I'm thinking of the 3800 in the mid-90's Camaros, now...the vehicle has an auto. Will Izuzu boxes bolt straight up to this Camaro engine? What does, and what doesn't? Or will a transfer fit on the Camaro transmission?

On a seperate point, there is a link provided above to a discussion on another board...wherein there is mention that Isuzu in Japan fitted both 2.6 and 3.2 engines to Troopers between 92-95. This is not the case. The 2.6 was used to 91, and then the 3.2 was introduced with the model change. There was never any overlap in Japan. The 2.8l gasoline engine, also, was never available in Japan. It was a N.A. thing.

As far as I know, in Japan, Troopers came in the following configs.

Early 1st gen. 2.0l gasoline or 2.2l diesel
Mid-Late 1st gen. 2.6l gasoline or 2.8l diesel

Early-mid 2nd gen. 3.2l gasoline or 3.1l diesel
Late 2nd gen. 3.5l gasoline or 3.0l diesel.
