Can we just back up for a minute?

Not being familiar with American vehicles... the talk of 3.8's is getting me confused here. Some are referring to Buick, some to Olds., some to Chev., and others, in more general terms, to GM. Are these all the same engine, utilizing the same bolt pattern?

I'm thinking of the 3800 in the mid-90's Camaros, now...the vehicle has an auto. Will Izuzu boxes bolt straight up to this Camaro engine? What does, and what doesn't? Or will a transfer fit on the Camaro transmission?

On a seperate point, there is a link provided above to a discussion on another board...wherein there is mention that Isuzu in Japan fitted both 2.6 and 3.2 engines to Troopers between 92-95. This is not the case. The 2.6 was used to 91, and then the 3.2 was introduced with the model change. There was never any overlap in Japan. The 2.8l gasoline engine, also, was never available in Japan. It was a N.A. thing.

As far as I know, in Japan, Troopers came in the following configs.

Early 1st gen. 2.0l gasoline or 2.2l diesel
Mid-Late 1st gen. 2.6l gasoline or 2.8l diesel

Early-mid 2nd gen. 3.2l gasoline or 3.1l diesel
Late 2nd gen. 3.5l gasoline or 3.0l diesel.
