I need a new mechanic. Flexalite says its a 3 hour job max to mount the fan and I believe them, but I was playing with my son, and dropped the truck at the mechanic who then took 8 hours to mount and wire the fan (I will be paying for 3 hours of labor) and I am not pleased with how it was mounted.... I also missed a 1800 CFS release on the lehigh river due to a lack of truck, which makes me even more irritable... you want road rage, I got some right here!

on to the fans. They move a boat load of air! they come on fast and seem to work well, I am going to be driving about 300 miles over the next 3 days so I will keep posting on mileage/power/ac changes

I did a 250 mile trip with the new fans in place, and so far, the temp gauge did not go past half way, the A/C was definitely better, and it seems like there is more power. (not as big an improvement as lots of stickers or a 7 inch diameter tail pipe though) it seems like I am going 70-85 with about 250 less rpm, and I think I am getting a little better milage ( I need to run about 750 more miles to be sure) I am going to be fixing the mounting brackets that my ex mechanic screwed up and hopefully gain some more effiecency.

Tell me more, is this a dual fan system, does it come with a temp sensor? I hate the stock fan, makes too much noise!!

Sounds like you are pleased with your latest mod.

Could you post some pictures? - Thanks.

I cant post pictures yet because I do not yet have a digital camera, (I am going to start shopping for one soon...)

1000K review....

I can not hear the fan at all at over 10 mph, and can just make it out windows down, stopped, no radio.

I am not seeing the HUGE power benifits, but I am turning about 250 rpm less at 75-80 and I am not lagging as badly up the long I-78/ I-80 uphills with full load and A/C on, so I like it!

what was the price range for the fan/labor? I heard these fans are pretty expensive. Do you have an on/off switch inside so you can shut the fan off for watere crossings?

The fan was 360 from summit racing, and if you can install, a car stereo, you can probably do the labor yourself. My mechanic had a bill stating 6 hours, but we discussed it, and I paid for one hour of labor (to do the wiring..)

I modified the brackets to fit with a jigsaw (metal blade) and angle grinder, and it went in pretty easy.

The fans do have a manual overide for water crossings, and I put it in even though I thought I would never ever need it. (if I see water I will a) kayak it, b) go around)

24 hours later, the switch was being used as I was fording 18+ inches of water from flash floods in PA trying to get home from boating.

Are those the BIG 27" fans ? Two, one higher than the other, with the electrical connections at top?

I was curious as there is a Flex-a-lite Black Magic fan (single) that is designed for Toyotas...

My OEM sounds like a school bus.

they are listed as a 27 inch fan, but they are a pair of staggered 13.5 fans
http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/295.htm
my wife and I figured that it is about 19% more fan area than stock, and with the gasket seal, it sucks more air through the radiator as opposed to around the shroud.
I am getting about 1 mpg better too, (over the last 1K miles)

I talked to flexalite, and the black magic fan will work (kindof) but has less fan area than the 295...

4XGeek wanted some tips on the Flex-a-lite install.

Here are two links I used to get enough info for my mechanic friend and I to do the install.

Hope this helps. Brew <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
