Getting the Wheeling Fever
1st Capitol 4WD of St. Charles, MO installed 4 new Rancho 9000X shocks on my 2003 Rodeo yesterday. 99214s on the front and 99186s on the rear. Well, the difference between the flaccid OEM shocks and the Ranchos is profound. With all 4 shocks set on "5", the pronounced brake dive is gone, the rear end no longer dances over uneven pavement and the highway ride is comfortable and well-controlled. This is exactly what I wanted.

I do note that the driver side rear fender now sits 1/2" higher than the passenger side. I measured the length of the rear shocks as installed and the driver side rear shock is exactly 1/2 inch longer than the passenger side rear shock. I can see a visual difference because a little more of the rear driver side fender well is now visible than before. My wife doesn't notice it. My questions are:

1. What would cause this?
2. Is it normal, i.e., a "live-with" situation?
3. Are there any potential negative consequences?
4. What would you do, if anything?

Thanks very much for your help.

I know this doesn't help but i noticed the same thing when I put my Koni adjustables on my 2002 Rodeo, so it's probably not anything to do with the Ranchos but more to do with the vehicle.

I'd be interested if anyone has an answer as well.

I have the same thing on my trooper... I was wondering if messing with torsion bars would even it out???

yup, thats what i would do. shocks have nothing to do with ride height when the vehicle is sitting on flat ground. If it is off, adjust the appropriate tbar to compensate. suspensions setting over time/use, i would not say this is abnormal.

Yeah, but it's annoying. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" /> Any ideas on why it happens only on that corner?

Depends on hundreds of factors, but mainly uneven weight distribution and no two springs are gonna settle in the same. basically, it just happens.

In my case it happened suddenly, i.e., right after the new shocks were installed.

shocks wouldn't cause this to happen as they do not effect ride height.
