So I passed on the 87 Starion limited slip but have an excellent opportunity to pick one up frm an 88. I know that they changed the diff mid way through the model year, but how can you know if the diff is the old version or the new version. I searched all the archives and the only thing I found was mention of a six bolt vs a four bolt pattern to the diff. They guy says it is a six bolt and gave me these numbers off the diff:

MB290946
á
8D06(DC1)4á

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

I believe that's the one. I know the '88 is tougher since it was a year of halves, but I believe the 6 bolt is the key. I had a mechanic swap the diff into my existing front carrier. Kevin C and Vic Lee know much more about this. Quote from archives..
"It will have both the door jam and differential cover Lsd warning stickers (one for type of diff fluid to use, and one wheel jacking warning for safety).

Where the cv axle bolts to the axle flange, the flange will have 6 bolts, ( not 4 ) and the axle diameter where it plugs into the differential carrier will be approximately 1.35ö and have a 28 tooth spline ( not 1.073ö with a 25 tooth spline )."
Hope this helps and good luck.
Jim

Thanks for the info,

It's kind of funny how this site works. I went looking to see if you were online since I knew you had recently done this. Not only did it tell me you were online but it told me you were checking the "Gen 1 V6 Front Lsdà Install Complete" thread. Thus I knew you were trying to help me. So I followed you and read the same info just a little bit later. Thanks for leaving the bread crumbs for me to follow.

I offered $75, he accepted. There is another guy in Connecticut who has an 89 with LSD. He said he couldn't pull it out of the vehicle for a few weeks (also $75). I was going to tell him I'm no longer interested once this one came to fruition. Should I hold off on that and pick that one up for you? I'd be willing to work the deal and you can pay me back for the part plus shipping ( and my usual commision <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />)
