Body Damage is Cool

I'm going to mount my sliders using this method.
[Linked Image]

Can you guys give me ideas on how to "lock" them so that a casual thief can't just un bolt em and walk away with these bad boys?

cheers,
Ziad

Talk to Scott Y. about it. As I recall his Slee Sliders mount in a similar fashion.

Maybe locking hitch pins?

How often will you be removing them? Could you tack weld one support on each side so you could just hit it with a grinder to remove it?

I posted one thought on the other board, came up with another one here...

I don't think that it would be worth the hassle going with hitch pins and such in the Slee style. That is part of the reason those buggers are so expensive.

Using only the way things are posted in that pic, I would say a little tack weld, but that is not completely removable then. Drilling out bigger holes for hitch pins is possible, but how often do you really intend to take these off?

Mine are completely bolt on and come off at least once a year to get ground to bare metal and painted up. I can't imagine those are easier to remove then mine and mine have not been stolen yet.

I have yet to wheel with Scott Y, maybe the fall colors ride Mojo... when are we going?

I don't really know how to weld or else I would tack weld them and grind them off as I need, but I can barely fit my truck in my little garage, let alone any tools

Cheers,
Ziad

There are a number of places on the web like this that have security screws but only sell them in bulk. Try looking in your Yellow Pages under bolts and nuts for a local vendor. Tell'em you are looking for tamper-proof/security fasteners.

Agree.... put a tack weld where you can get at it fairly easy with the grinder... Could even be the nut to the end of the bolt through the two pipes...

When you put them back on, just use a new bolt and nut and do the same again...

Ask yourself this: Is it really worth it to go to the trouble of theft-proofing your sliders? Who steals sliders? I would guess that no thief is going to take the time to undo a set of normal bolt-on sliders. For that investment in time, they might as well break in and steal the whole truck.
This just seems like one of those projects that could have the money and time it would take to accomplish diverted into something more worthwhile. Buy another toy for your truck with the money.

<Edit> Oh yeah, I'd vote for just welding those bad-boys on permanently. It provides that anti-theft function and stiffens the whole assembly. In the 5 years I've had my sliders welded on I've never come close to wanting to take them off for any maintenance or what-not.

Actually, Reapur knows that if he were to simply bolt them on, and if I were still living in Colorado, that I'd steal them and put them on Sherpa! (haa haa haa, Just kidding Ziad!! )

In all seriousness, I think Maj's comment about security fasteners sounds like the best idea. That is what I was going to mention.
