Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hi, I had a question for owners with high mileage engines that are still modding out, or who continue to buy more "stuff" for their trucks.
Well, first a little background on my little old trusty 95.5 4x4 rodeo, it has just reached 204,000 trouble free, mainly highway miles on the odometer. feels like it can still go another 100k. the body has held up pretty well, this is a daliy driven vehicle that will probably stay with me until i run it into the ground or get another daily driver but still have the rodeo for "other" uses. not really a hardcore offroader but do like the look and want to know that it does have somewhat of a capability of doing the fun things.
So question is, will it be worth it to still try fixing up this truck or save my funds for a new truck in the future, possibly another zu either rodeo or troop? Is it a lost cause by adding more stuff and possibly stress(adding lift) to an aging vehicle?
I really just want a 3" lift and bigger tires, and maybe just a few more accessories from darlington. so about $1500 in mods. Which is $1500 more than the value of the rodeo itself. I have bilstein shocks on already. so it's pretty much stock.
TIA
Wil

Go for it. If you got a good solid frame under there with litte rot.
I cant wait for my engine to die, so I can throw a 3.4 in.

The idea of modding an old truck is great. In your case you are thinking of getting another 'zu, so almost all of the parts can go on your new rig, you also get the buggs out of wrenching on your rig, like learning what to look for.. and you learn how to wheel on a rig that you dont car about. Imagine wheeling a 2004 Rodeo!!!
1995 Trooper 3.2 single, 5 speed, OME 912's, T-bar crank, G80, 285 M/T's, custom dents, random rust
1999 Trooper 3.5, auto, TOD, K&N, tint (wife's car can't improve it)
1988 Trooper LS 5 speed SOLD

Dear god man! You're talking about making changes to a 95.5 Rodeo here! I've got a bloomin' '86 Trooper (granted it has a new engine and a new radiator after about 250K miles [and that probably could have been saved but hopefully this new setup will last another 250K] but I beleive the tranny is original and the frame seems to be in great shape) and I plan to mod this thing for prerunning , run it into the ground, then start all over again and I'm a high school student with about a hundred bucks in the bank...
GO FOR IT MAN!!

hmm i replied earlier i thought but my post aint here.
what mods are you planning? tires and OME 912 springs for rear lift would transfer to a new isuzu. try to plan around a few mods that would be interchangeable with a newer trooper or rodeo in case your 95 poops on you. What the other guys said too - an older vehicle is MUCH easier to beat up than a new one.

thnx for the replies guys, just needed some reasurrances that i wasn't going in the wrong direction by leaving the truck alone
Im starting out with the basic 3' lift and bigger tires, who knows it may go downhill from there
true, it's gonna be nice to have a vehicle that you can just tinker and BEAT the hell on this truck has always been a freakin tank anyways(still running on all original parts, except alternator,204k miles, still running strong, preparing for the worst tho), i'll see how it holds up ok... i guess the fun has just begun on this zu

Also- If you're really concerned, buy parts that have good resale value.
For example, I bought the new rancho 9-ways knowing they'd keep their value longer than an older model shock. Just in case I want to go SAS next year...
