the extracab from 89-95 is longer than the extracab of the 84-88

Many people have put 89-95 beds on the 84-88 frames

so if the cab is longer and the bed is the same length wouldnt the frame have to be longer?

I would assume so, but you know what happens when we assume
Only one way to find out for sure.
Measure it!
I don't have either kind of truck, so I don't know.

I love the turbo engine, I can keep 55 up very steep hills and thats with only exhaust done, the only problem is it's a stand cab and I really want the extra room of an extra cab or 4runner.

I am not sure which would be easier, or to be more accurate, which would be less of a PITA, swapping the motors or the cabs. Remember, if you do a cab swap you have to disconnect everything from the engine anyway. Sensors, radiator hoses, wiring harnesses, etc. You also would likely need to gut the entire cab in order to make it a managable weight for moving. The 4Runner body is much heavier and larger too, so that presents a challenge that I haven't faced.

The frames are NOT the same. The frame is indeed 10" longer in the center - 112" vs 122" wheelbase.

There also were not just two frames in the mid 80's, there were three: Short WB pickup, 4Runner, Long-box/xcab.

4Runner/pickup frames are not the same. - they are VERY similar, but not the same. Maybe BudR can pipe in????

Yup, I have that 3rd type of 84-88 frame.
As for the 4runner/(std cab short bed)pickup frame, I think they are the same legnth, but the body mounts are different.
Maybe the extracab/longbed of the 84-88 are the same legnth of the 89-95 extracab? Anyone know the measurements?

I'm 80% sure the pickup/4Runner frames have different rails. The 4Runner's don't rise as much behind the 2nd body mount. Pretty sure - could be wrong.

The 84-88 xcab is 10" SHORTER than the 89-85 xcab. The frames are NOT the same.

I was refering to the 3rd mid-80's style frame, the xtracab longbed (what I have) (RN70 frame).
I was wondering if that was similar in legnth to the 89-95 xtracab.

Elbow Grease has a 2WD Xtra Cab longbed. You are right though, not too many of those hanging out around here.

Even more rare, my cousin has a turbo 4WD Custom Cab that has about a 140" wheelbase.

If you want more power for your 4runner then I would suggest you look into a 5mge or 7mge swap. You will have more power over a longer power band and no turbo to contend with. I would think it is as much work as any other swap. I have been a supra owner for a long time and the inline 6 motor (supras and cresidas) is very impressive. pound for pound some of the best motors ever made IMHO.
