If so, maybe they ain't so bad. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/show...id=29283&highlight=genuine+gears So I know what Superior has for markings on the ring gear....stamped something like "DSD-G"......when you check yours out what do you see?

If you want a new set of the cheapies, I've got a new in the plastic set of 5.29 Genuine brand gears 8inch that where warranty replacements that I never used. I'll sell them for $25 if you pay the UPS shipping. The ones they were replacing lasted me about 35-40K miles before the pinon gear started going out.

At least your friend didn't mess up one of the expensive brands.

As far as I've seen, Sierra gears are a re-box job just like "Yukon" gears from Randy's Ring and Pinion. There might be crap gears in there if you paid the low end price, and there might be good gears in there if you paid something more than their rock bottom price, same deal as with Randy's. In reality you need to ask the guy to go check who really manufactured the gears you're ordering in the box they're sending you, don't let them just tell you "Sierra gears".

I believe the "Sierra" gears I've installed have come from Drivetrain Wherehouse here in Cali. If it's not Drivetrain Wherehouse, then it was Drivetrain Direct.

Of course none of this helps your gear whine problem, but good luck pulling it apart to see what the problem is. And remember, dial indicators can be had fairly cheaply ($30 will suffice), as can gear marking compound, so there isn't really any excuse for not using these two vital tools to ensure a good setup.

Sh!t sorry ZUK Ive been busting ass trying to get packed. Well my MPG went up <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> (Duh)( I used to get only 265 miles out of a tank (If I was lucky)now I get around 290-315 . Im loveing it. But am more concerned with my clutch and at 190,000+ miles Im getting alot of typical issues (ecessive knocking, exhaust leak, an oil leak that wont stop(not alot, just enough to smell it after I get off the freeway), and my shot steering setup (Idler arm has seen better days with smaller tires). Now I just need to do the front. Im stuck between keeping the IFS and locking it up or going SA. i think for now I 'll just gear the front. Anyone getting rid of 5:29 for a 7.5"?? Thanks for keeping up with the topic ZUK. BTW your website helped ALOT!! Later
