Well, technically he didn't mis-represent them, he did say the clear coat is coming off and they will need some work, so technically he didn't do anything wrong . On a side note if I bought the rims I would leave negative feedback, or maybe just neutral with complaint. Be sure and post what u leave for feedback smile. BTW how much did you end up paying?

**ummm I would give it a day or two before posting feedback. Try getting in touch with the seller and discuss the condition with him first. Depending on his attitude then decide the neutral or negative feedback. Keep in mind he gets to leave feedback too...as well as rebute your comments. Give yourself some time to chill and gather your thoughts...try talking to him and then proceed. Not trying to preach at all...just telling you what I tell my wife when she gets into these kinda things. Save yourself a feedback fight.

Roger is right about cleaning them up. I used a paint stripper from ACE that is a gel. I didn't even take the rims off my truck. Before you get happy with the sand paper, try a few coats of the stripper. If there aren't any scrapes, don't use the sand paper. Go right into the buffing wheels after using the stripper. Hang in there, they will clean up.

I buy and sell a fair amount on eBay. No, the picture is NOT representative of the rims as a set, but he did say that the clear coat was coming off, and you must have had some suspicion that he was showing you the BEST of the five rims in the picture? I think his picture was misleading but if I saw the text without the picture I would have assumed the worst.

I would agree that your situation is disappointing, but this is one of the dangers of buying used stuff without being able to inspect it first. I am currently going through the same situation with an outboard motor I purchased -- promised one thing, pictures didn't show true extent of damage, etc. It sucks, but it is also part of the nature of buying things on eBay.

What I've found is this: you can ALWAYS leave negative feedback, but your leverage in the situation only exists as long as you can threaten to leave negative feedback!

To me, I think your best remedy is to do as was suggested and have the rims bead blasted and powder coated. You are not likely to get your money back, but it is very possible that the threat of negative feedback, politely delivered, can get the seller to reimburse you for 25% - 50% of the cost of the blasting and powder coating.

Some sellers, especially those that sell a lot of stuff and care about their reps, will try hard to make a bad situation right. And of course, some won't do a damn thing no matter what. Give this guy the benefit of the doubt and start by being reasonable. You can always jack up your emotion and vitriol later, if need be, just as you can always leave a negative feedback.

That's my .02 cents. Good luck,

Jeff
