Last weekend my dad and I installed new CV boots for the first time. I could not believe how difficult it was to install the boot bands, and was hoping some of you might have advice if I need to do it again. The bands were the type where you thread the free end through the little clasp, pull it tight, and then fold the clasp back over 180 degrees. After that you pinch the little ears over to hold the band in place. We bought the boot band wrench tool, but it didn't help much. It's the one where you thread the band through the tip, and then tighten the band by wrapping it around a little spool using a half inch socket (sorry, don't know the official name)

It seemed really easy with this tool to overtighten the band to the point that we could not fold it back over on its self to secure it. Or, the boot would just spin on the axel shaft without the clasp folding over when we tried to pull it tight. It was very frustrating. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> After what seemed like forever we got it attached, but I'm still not really satisfied with how tight it is. This was my first experience with boot bands, so any advice on how to install them properly would be much appreciated. Thanks-
Cory
