OK I ordered Allpros Hy-steer kit on Monday, its still not here. UPS is killing me! I should have just drove down there and picked it up myself. But anyways do I need a Special tool to remove the pitman arm? Will a pickle fork work? Any other things I might need to know before I do this?.....John..... Oh yah its an 86 so I wont have to mess with the steering box

Start with the PB Blaster now. Hit it daily until you do the job. Then rent a pitman arm puller. Tighten it as much as you can without bending it, and whack the crap out of the arm and bolt head. You may need to get a torch involved to persuade it to come off. Have fun...

Ideally you'll have a pitman arm puller. Auto Zone will loan you one. While the pitman arm is under pressure of the puller, whack the arm with a 2lb. sledge hammer. If it doesn't fall right off, tighten puller and whack again.

I agree with what has been said, typically the prongs on a pickle for are not wide enough to get around the steering box shaft.

You folks had better luck than I. I did all of the above. Oil, puller (broke two), BFH. Nothing worked. Finally took the truck to a shop and had them do it. Even they had a hard time. Note that this was not the factory arm, but an AllPro that I was replacing with an OTT. You'd think it would have come right off.

or just run one of sky's pitman arm adapters:

http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/steering1.htm and scroll down a bit...

well worth the lack of cussing, beating and burning...

Same here. I gave up after breaking a ratchet using a pitman arm puller. Grinded it to the point where you could see a stress crack down the middle, and then it pulled right off. Just be VERY VERY carefull you don't grind the splines on the steering box shaft. Take your time. Here's how it looked:
