Ok well my wife had to go home by herself which is 9 hours away with the newly rebuilt headgasket on the runner. Well she made it 8 hours when she noticed that she had the Gas Pedal pinned and she was only doing 60 on the flat...Of course I asked if she had her mother in the car...she said no
Then she says that all of a sudden it just acted like it was coasting and it came to a stop on the side of the freeway. She says she could get it to go like 20 but that was it. The heater was appariently not working either but she checked it after it cooled off and it was full. No dummy lights, no leaky gas, no missing cylinders, starts fine. Like I say I'm not there to look at it becuase I couldn't get leave untill the 20th but I am trying to figure it out before I get there. I am thinking TV cable out of adjustment, or mabye the throttle cable wiggled loose, or clogged filter, bad gas...hmm..Anyone have any thoughts please feel free, thanks.

Need a little more info. Did it run hot? Would it not turn over when she 1st stopped? Does it run good now? Also the heater will not put out heat if no water is flowing through the core, was it low on coolant? These things can be tempermental about filling the coolant. I have had to disconnect the upper heater hose to bleed all the air from the coolant system as I fill it on some of them.

Sounds VERY bad to me dude. Keep us all posted on the funeral arrangements for your engine. I'm thinking of starting a new insurance company that offers "my wife was driving" insurance.

Amazingly enough I had the exact same experience yesterday with a company truck, '93 2wd EFI Toyota Pickup, when I went to pick up truck today the mechanic said that there was a clogged vacuum hose. I don't know which one off hand, but if I get the chance I can ask tomorrow. Hopefully you'll get just as lucky.

Just reread you post. I'm don't have any idea about relevence of the heater because it was not on in my truck.

It did not run hot...according to my wire it accually went cold. It never died just wouldn't accelerate. It starts fine and runs smooth. When I refilled the coolant I did burp the system and she said it was full when she checked it after it cooled down. Before she called a tow truck she tried putting it back in gear (a/t) and driving off....only got up to 35 but it didn't sound like it was reving up. Sounds to me like a cable but she said they were all good. The heater thing is kinda puzzling but the acceleration thing is really got my stumped...not being able to look at it.

Well no reply to the last post but my wife called me today and said that everything was running fine...

So now I'm really puzzled. What would cause it to not accelerate...and now be perfectly ok?

Body Damage is Cool
Automatic or 5 speed?

Does it rev when she pushes the gas pedal with it in neutral? If so it's not the throttle cable. Could be bad gas, but it would run rough most likely if that were the case.

I'd make sure you've got sufficent fuel pressure. When you did the HG, I guess it's possible to bugger up the FPR on the fuel rail. Another possibility is the fuel filter or fuel pump...

If it wasn't for not having any heat, I'd guess that something was (partially) blocking the air intake. Once she parked the truck, it probably blew away. I'll let you know if I can figger out how that would make the engine run cold.

My guess is that something caused the computer to go into limp home mode. I think it is programmed for like 20-25MPH. Good luck
