Hi Everyone!
I am still trying to figure out my 22re rough idle. I checked the egr valve today and it wasn't clogged and was opening and closing.
I pulled the connector from the tps tonite and the idle speed went up and the idle seemed to smooth out. When I bought the truck the tps was giving me a code and I couldn't set the timing and it had a hesitation off idle. I adjusted the tps using 4crawlers write-up and I thought it was within specs when I finished. When I removed the code, it never came back, my timing problem and hesitation stopped, but my idle never smoothed out.
Since then, I have done a timing chain replacement, headgasket, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel and air filters and nothing made a difference.
Now I am looking at other things like the egr valve I checked today. Should I recheck the tps or could it be bad and still within specs???
Also was wondering about the AFM, could it be causing the rough idle also? I drilled the idle mixture cap and tried to play with the adjustment, as I turned the screw out it made the engine almost die, but it can be screwed all the way in with no change to my idle.
Any comments or further things to check would be most appreciated!!!!
Thanks! Taylor... <small>[ 08 May 2002, 01:12 AM: Message edited by: Bonzai ]</small>

I've got the same problem. I also have a loss of power problem on long hill starting at about 50mph, almost like I'm running on 3 cylinders.

I hear ya! I wish I could get it figured out. I'm sure it is probably something simple.

I've done other post about my issues and haven't gotten any responses. I think when it comes to SAS,broken Birfeids, lifts, etc, everybody got an answer or an opinion. But when it comes trouble shooting engines nobody knows what to do, or it's just to hard to truble shoot over a computer.

I love this board, but I use others as well. Here's one that seems better with engine/tranny issues: http://www.t4x4pickup.com/dgroup/index.htmlThe search engine stinks big time, but no one will flame you for asking a question again. There are many posts about the TPS. Give it a try. Good luck!

Hey now, we can't monitor this board 24/7. I'm sorry if your matter wasn't attended to in a timely fashion. As for troubleshooting engines, there are plenty of people here that are fully capable of doing so. You're right about diagnosing a problem over the computer, it isn't easy.
Maybe if Taylor gives us some more details about what else he's checked, or maybe describe the symptoms in more detail other than "rough idle" , we could maybe develop our own line of questions. For example, is it rough to the touch? Is it visible in the gearshift(s)? Does it shake the whole truck? Does it feel like a cylinder is missing? Have you checked the idle speed? Waht are the valves adjusted at?
And so on <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Making an accurate diagnosis requires a little more legwork on your part. Once a baseline has been established, I'm sure there are more than a few people around that would be willing to help you figure out the problem.

TPS and EGR were either adjusted or found to be clean and operating fine. That is why I asked about the TPS, because when unplugged, the idles jumps higher but the truck seems to idle much better. I was curious if that was normal or a clue to my problem.
The idle is rough, it is rough to the touch and it can be noticed in the shifters. Runs fine going down the road, and seems to run fine at high idle when cold but as soon as it warms up and the idle drops it has the miss to it. The valves have been set both 7 and 11 cold and presently they are set at 8 and 12 hot, with no difference. The idle is between 750 and 800.
Thanks, Taylor...
