Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does any one know if there's a way to couple a 1988 5sp. V6 4x4 transmission to a 1985 22RE? The 85 is a 4runner that had a AT in it. I have a V6 tranny out of a pu that's just sitting in my garage doing nothing. Thought if there's a way to do it I would convert. Thanks, rj

I believe that you do this with the bellhousing from a 22RTE turbo truck, but these bellhousings are fairly rare and expensive.

Marlin might have some but he will want a lot of money for them. I had one recently but I sold it along with the R151F turbo tranny. That is the thing, the R151Fs are worth a fair bit of money and I cannot imagine anyone selling just the bellhousing without the transmission.

I can imagine it... if he's using the R151 behind a 3.4 and wants your V6 bellhousing in trade. But it will be a long time before I am that guy. Sorry...

To add, the R-series trannys behind the V6's are 23 spline, unlike the G52 and W56, which are 21 spline.

So if the tranny is 23 spline I'd need to make sure I get a turbo clutch. Does anyone know if the flywheel and pilot bearing are different on the turbo vs 22RE? Thanks, rj

No - don't worry about it. The input shaft on the R150 is only 21 spline. I know - doesn't make sense.... Caught me off guard and confused the hell outta me... But that's what my three R150's have. Output is 23 spline, input 21.

Transfer case input is 23 spline. So is the R151.
