air dam (rear spoiler) looking dull. What to use to shine it up? #336889 10/25/03 05:46 AM

What do you guys recommend to keep that rear air dam looking black. Mine is looking faded and gray from sitting out in the sun all day long.

Same thing goes for the black on my running boards and bumpers.

Thanks for your help!
Steve

I have a 94 Runner and I just painted my faded spoiler with black trim paint available in auto parts store and it looks like new. I do not know what to use on the running boards or bumper ends. I will be watching other replys to your post to learn what to use though.

my 4-runner is a '99 so its not too far gone. I dont need to paint it, I just want to polish it up when I wash it to give it that "wet", "black" look. Ive tried various tire dressings but they only seem to work for a day or so.

Someone here suggested Mequires Endurance to use on my tires, and man oh man, that stuff is awesome. Works for weeks. Now I just hope to find something like it for the plastic parts.

Thanks again for everyones help.
Steve

Well, I waxed mine which only made it shiny gray. So, I used my Meguiars Paint Body Scrub paint cleaner on it. That brought the black back, and I have used the Meguiars Polymer Sealant on it. It looks great!

I just reread your post. Are you talking about the metal wind deflector attached to the top of your liftgate? That is what I was answering.

I use Black Magic for my plastic and rubber trim.

Sorry, my second post was a bit confusing. Yes, I was referring to the metal wind deflector, and thanks for the tip. I'll look into those products.

Any other replys?

Steve

Body Damage is Cool
the rear deflector is made of aluminum. I've seen it sand blasted and left with shiny aluminum. You could repaint it with ratle can.
As far as running boards and bumper, I took those things off years ago...sorry.

BTW, I got them in my garage....rear bumper is alittle dinged up though...

It is just a good rule of thumb to wax it when you wax the truck, after all it is painted metal.

I have always heard "Pledge furniture polish" works very good on flat black paint.
