Are you pressing the brake while this is happening? If so, your idle speed is prbably too high. Turn it down, or look for air/vacuum leaks if it won't adjust properly. Check the cold-start injector to be sure it's cutting off when it should.

'89 4Runner, V6, Auto, 180K, Some stuff's stock, some isn't.
