also i planned on using a hood scoop from a subaru wrk or a 3rd gen. 4runner instead of a 2in. body lift. but now that i thought about it more would a 1in. body lift and a hood scoop work well? i was thinking of the 1in. to give more clearence for the exhaust.
Thanks for the help!

I dont think a scoop from the subaru WRX will work well, cause its so short along the surface of the hood. the supercharger takes up alittle more then a square foot above the stock hood.
the one for the 3rd gen is what my cousin is using. it will work if the scoop is lifted alittle off of the surface of the old hood, but the flow/curve of the hood will not look
good.

also take into account that the engine will move whenever it torques up. so leave some clearance for that.

right now the pulley of the supercharger sticks about 1/2 inch above the original hood, that 1 in body lift should be all you need if you want to use the 3rd gen scoop.

the fiberglass insert for the scoop is expensive at the dealer, about close to 200 bucks if I remember correctly. goto a junkyard and find a good hood, it would have the insert with it.

Will,

which year engine and ecu you use??

we used both 99 engine and ecu.
99 block cause the oil dip stick was in a good spot. still had the little bung that we drilled out and installed the 3.0 stick.
99 ecu cause it corrected some of the fuel problems to support the TRD supercharger.

btw, do you have an pictures of your hood? my 4runner is still without a scoop. I dont want to do a body lift either. I need to cover up that hole in my hood <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

thanks
William

I'm assuming it will work, cause thats all we need to make the supercharger pulley clear the hood, everything else already clears the scoop.

91runner, where are you located? if you need parts or need someone to do the wiring, we can do it, we're down in Houston.

TeamShiftPoint,

I used a 98 4Runner 3.4 motor. Wiring/MAF/ECU/Sensors are from a 2001 Tacoma 4WD manual transmission. That was the only good combo that I could find. The guy I bought mine from had a 2001 Tacoma but the block was cracked in an accident and the 98 4Runner had a good motor but was originally an automatic. I verified that the crankshaft had a hole for the pilot bearing (supposedly some didn't) and I bought the whole setup. So I have an extra wiring harness, MAF, injectors, P/S pump and other misc stuff from the 98. The 2001 ECU and components are CA smog compliant and can be upgraded to the TRD 7th injector kit. smile
Regarding the lift/scoop thoughts, I added the scoop and it was fine for an unsupercharged application but is a little close with the supercharger- meaning that full throttle blasts cause the left front corner of the supercharger to just slightly contact the scoop. Not a big deal, I can live with it. A 1 inch body lift would more than correct the problem but I don't want any of that. This is my daily driver and I want maximum handling (vehicle as low to the ground as possible- 235/75 15's for me until I get a new daily driver and then I'll SAS the Focker and put 33's & lockers on it)

Another note about the scoop- The one I used from idmspeed.com looks freakin perfect. It's low profile and only cost me like $60.00 w/shipping if I remember correctly. However, I had to pay a body shop to install it ($250 installed & painted) cause I have no patience/skill with bodywork and I wanted it to look professionally installed and not ghetto or farmer Brown style. I'll gladly send pics to anyone who will post them- it seems that you need to have your pics on a webserver and cannot upload them directly!?

will, when you say the left top corner, is that the left looking at it from inside the car? or the front of the car?

cause we had to grind the top right corner of the s/c alittle (looking at it from the front) cause it hit the scoop.

email them to me, I will host it for you. teamshiftpoint@ev1.net I'll send you the link to the server.

we did the major body work on my cousins 3rd gen scoop. cutting the hole in the hood, and attaching the hood scoop, and bondo-ing the gaps. the lines look good. I have a hookup at a dealership body shop, so they are going to finish the smoothing and paint the whole truck.
