Need a Spot
Thanks for the offer - but first - I talked to Carb Tech - they said that the Mikuni carb is most difficult to rebuild - the screws are glued in, and most kits don't come with all the needed components. But he asked me if the engine had been sitting for a while (it has). He said that the problem is not likely the accelerator pump diaphram, but the acc pump needs to be blown clean. The only caution is not to strip the screws in trying to remove the pump. He suggested this cheap alternative first. Any comments from those who have taken their carbs apart? After this my options include the used Weber for $150, or Carb Tech will rebuild my carb for $600 ($200 in parts)!

Body Damage is Cool
"most difficult" "glued in"

BULLSHIRT!!!!!!

In the last couple of years I've compeltely taken apart 3 (or was it four?) Monty carbs, from 85-87 years, and 3 or 4 Caravan carbs of the same years, and I've not had a SINGLE screw to strip or refuse to come out!

It is true that most kits don't come with all the parts -- mainly the acceleration pump and Aux accel pump diaphrams --but they are available. I can't imagine $200 in parts to rebuild a Mukini carb. A rebuild kit is $32.99 from Auto Zone (won't include AAP, but that's about $12 from Carb Tech) and a rebuilt carb is $320.99 from them. $600????

IF you are careful, take your time, have good tools & hit every screw with PB Blaster the day before you try and take it apart, there's no reason you can't rebuild this yourself.

IF you can't be careful, won't take your time, and have cheap tools you bought at Wally World, you might want to look for another alternative. Only you know your skill level, but if you're a reasonabley careful person with some mechanical skills a Mukini rebuild is not beyound you.

If I can help you in any way, drop me a PM.

Good luck!

Terry
