I may be wrong, but manuals dont have tranny coolers. The fluid temp isnt as critical as an auto. So if its manual, I wouldnt bother with the tranny cooler, and I dont think it would even be possible to hook one up. Most F-150s that came with the towing package had a tranny cooler already installed (my dad owns a 97 with the 4.6 and trailer package). But for towing, go with the f-150, even though its a v-6, it was built for towing and hauling. It might be lighter at the rear wheels, but if you add a trailer, its going to be better.

92 Rodeo, 3.1 TB crank, custom bumpstop spacers, DOR shackles, Flipped ball joints, D44 Rear, 4.56s and new magnaflow cat and dynomax ultraflow muffler Since been replaced by a 2 door Explorer on 31's shackles, cranked torsion bars and full exhaust

I called up and yes, its a electric trailer brake controller. The Trooper 2 is a manual, i guess its a 86. I like that because no emissions tests for 87 and older vehicles here. HEEHEE. I have to wait till summer to do the tow, but i'll be using the 99 f-150 with a 5spd trany. Its there anything bad about using a car dolly(the trailers that only lock 2 tires up, and the rest of the trooper2 will ride on the rear tires?

DOH, sorry about that. I scanned the post above and did not see a reference to what the tranny was. My bad. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Dan is right. No need for a cooler.

Anything is better than flat towing. A trailer is better than a dolly. With the dolly, you loose the use of brakes. While it may not be a big thing, you loose the ability to activate the trailer brakes if it starts swaying. There really are no bit hills between NM and TX, then you will probably be ok. But...if you have access to a trailer, then I would jump on the opportunity to use it.

MLClark clearly stated "...If the 150 has an auto tranny..." first sentence of his reply.
