Guys,
I crossed over from the Isuzu (I'm a trooper owner) thread since I'm seriously considering buying a friend's 98 3-door Pajero diesel intercooler Japanese-spec.
Anyone have info on this model/engine? What do I have to look out for? This car was converted from right-hand drive to left. I can live with that since most of the converted units here in Manila seem to do well.
I'm going to see the car tonight and any info would be appreciated.

Welcome to the group Former Trooper owner here also hey, one thing you want to do is find out exactly which diesel the truck has. There are at least 3 possibles if I remember correctly. Will help determine what you should be paying:) seer

only 2 options in this model, the 2.5 TDI and 2.8 TDI. The 2.8 has a electronicly controled fuelpump and an option of aftermarket computers for added power. You can tell them apart on the scoop on the hood on the 2.8L for the intercooler.

3,2l diesel is gen 3. The 2.8 is a far better engine than 2.5 I think.(no belt)

The 2.5 Turbo intercooler engine was still offered in gen 3's but not the 2.8. That should say something about durability and popularity. But if I fry the head off my rig I'll kill <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> for a 3.2 DID replacement. Does anyone know if there is a gearbox available for the 3.2?

Got to see the car last night but was disappointed to find that it was a 2.5 TDI Gen 1. I was kind of hoping it would have been a gen 2 at least.
It had s/steel bullbars, dunlop MT tires (31's I think), cheap clarion stereo and a just as cheap equalizer.
The paint was still the original denim blue and looked so well maintained that I could still make out the ripple on the surface.
It had the telltale hood scoop. The engine looked decent enough and emitted clean exhaust. Interior and bumpers were showing signs of age.
I'll just keep this car on my "maybe" list while I go on searching for a gen 2.
BTW, are these cars originally equipped with all disk brakes and coil springs? This car had 'em.

A 1998 GEN I? Maybe 1998 was when it came into the Philippines. GEN I's were produced only until the early 90's.
The last of the GEN I's came with coils and disc brakes on the back axle.
Feel free to visit us at Tsikot.com if you have any queries regarding the conversion process and whether or not it will suit you.
