I took Sherpa out for a drive yesterday for the first time in over a week. Well, I had a terrible time trying to get it into gear. For the last few weeks I have heard a consistent squeak each time I actuated the clutch. It feels like my clutch cable is sticking. Is there any way to lubricate it?

Body Damage is Cool
There is a rubber bushing at the top of the clutch pedal where it pivots that goes bad frequently and that sounds like your problem. I believe there is a write-up on fixing it either on here or yotatech.

BTW, nice typo in the title. "Serious Shiting Problems."

I had noises on two occasions. Once, there was a "click" when the pedal was nearly all the way depressed. Clutch master was leaking. Next time (more recently), there was a slight squeak when depressing the pedal. I flushed w/ new Valvoline dot 4 synthetic brake fluid and all has been well since. The clutch fluid turns brown much sooner than brake fluid. I think the turning brown is heat-induced. Once it turns brown/tan, I change it.

Uhh... Oops! Haa haa haa! For someone who really works to not make many grammatical errors, that was a pretty good one!

Thanks for all your support on my serious, and personal problem. I will change my diet and reduce my dependency on salsa. Hopefully this will all pass! (I just couldn't resist the pun!)

I am a long way past my warranty. I hope this isn't too expensive. I need to get Sherpa running well for a road trip over Thanksgiving!

Please keep the suggestions comming. (ie: How much $ will this run to repair/replace?)

I have learned that Toyota trucks do not use cables, but are hydraulic. Where are the linkages, and would lithium grease be a good thing to use?

so was this 'click' you speak of related to the clutch master leaking. i noticed that my clutch started 'clicking' last week. there's a little bit of oil on the driver's kick plate. but i couldn't locate the location of the click, so i just attributed it to the clutch return spring. so i'm assuming that my master cylinder is leaking. where is it located so i can refill it. and it the clicking because it's low on fluid or is something broken? it's an old truck and i'm not ready to put a bunch of money in it to replace the master cylinder. i'd be really happy if i can just get away with refilling it.

thanks!
mike
