just got back from an unscheuduled, several hour fishing trip. it was a lucky night though, I caught a vw jetta...

to explain, its been raining like all hell here and some of the local roads have turned into local rivers. what originally started as a 10 minute run to get some fast food, turned into a much longer excursion with a couple water crossings, the worst of which was up to my floorboard.

on my first "run" through that section I took it a little too fast, and ended up with water burying the hood and a steady stream of water/sediment pouring out of my heater vents onto the floor. so, I pull over, yank the drain plugs, turn around, and, of course, go at it again in the other direction. on the way back (the stretch of flooded road at this spot was about 1/4mi long), I noticed that the jetta that wasnt moving on the first pass was still there so, I stopped and pulled him out. it was quite amusing to watch a vw plane over the water for about 1/8mi like a raft being pulled behind a boat.

my main concern is about the water that got behind the dash, should I pull the dash and dry everything out? or was it (hopefully) designed to drain onto the floor and not mess up anything else? all the electrics appear to be functioning properly.

on the first pass it did pull a small amount of water into the intake, but it burped that out quickly enough that I am not concerned, it ran smoothly all the way to the car wash (vaccumed the carpet so it wouldnt smell), to get food, and finally home.

also, should I be worried about water in the diffs? I dont go puddle jumping very often, this is the deepest its been since ive owned it (and I really doubt the previous owner even took it off road).

all in all, it was great fun, but I threw the jetta back because it was too small

HAH, I just saw a live shot on the news of the same spot I was just at, and there was a durango, an f150'ish truck, and what appeared to be half of a honda-like vehicle all stuck. my jeep kicks ass.

Im at work now in ca and was looking at the weather and it looks bad in that area. I went threw a lot of rivers and when I had everything changed the guy said it all looked good.went to a speedy oil change and changed everything at once. i would worry if it was sitting in that deep water for long enough for the water to seep into the seals.put a small fan inside to dry it out. heat will make mildew grow.

Sounds like a great fishing trip. I wouldn't worry too much about the electrics if all is working now. The dif vent lines come way high and I don't think you would get anything there. As for the carpet, just take it out and let it air dry and it shouldn't start to smell.
