I have a 1996 4Runner 4X4 that is in need of new front brakes. The disc is warped and it's time to replace. Can anyone suggest a good brand or should I go with OEM replacement parts? Also, how about a good brand of brake pads too.
gracias!

i cannot speak from experience with my 4R, but on my other cars i have always used Brembo Power Slot w/Axxis matrix pads and they have always been way better than stock for durability.

they don't make parts for trucks, sports cars only. OEM is quite high and if there is another product out there that is being used by off-road crowd I would like to know..

ok, got a liitle deeper into the brembo web site. they do make them for the 4Runner's. About $46 for stock rotars. That's pretty dam cheap compared to the $110 the dealer wants. Any comments on Brembo products, I see them on all the sports cars, must be a quality product?

I would stick to OEM stuff unless Brembo makes OEM replacement rotors. You'll find most Brembo rotors are slotted and cross-drilled for high performance driving(racing). Unless you're going to be hauling-ass and stopping in the nick of time, you don't have to worry about that.

Brembo slotted/cross-drilled discs tend to wear down a little sooner because of the less material that is has compare to OEM. They dissappate heat quicker thus less brake fade.

I would recommend looking into Repco Metalmasters or Mintex brake pads to go along with your new rotors.

Hope this helps a little.

I have the Brembo's you are talking about with Performance friction pads. They work great and I felt a noticable difference. I had PF pads with the stock rotors and for some reason, the pads on one side trashed the rotor. The pad appeared to have a metal chunk in it and burned a groove and made noise braking. Got free replacement pads no question and the brembo's. I reallly never thought it would make that much of a difference unless you changed calipers, rotor's(larger) and pads but it does! Well, I thought anyway

Yeah I added a set of the crossdrilled ones after warping my second set of factory ones, so far so good no problems and its been close to a year now.
Here what they look like after install

I also added the performance friction pads you can pick up at Autozone (they make the TRD pads or did)

thanks.
after further research and listening I am going with the Brembo replacement rotars for $46 at Tirerack. These are not slotted or drilled so they should last longer than the crappy OEM parts. I am going with the Mintex brake pads too.
