I just rebuilt the engine in my Rodeo, and after installing the engine and driving it a bit I have noticed a high pitch chirp when the clutch is engaged (dead stop in neutral and as well when moving). BTW: The truck is a 92 Rodeo w/ a 3.1L and the BW tranny. The noise is coming from the bell housing, and I suspect that it's one of two things: the thrust bearing, or the throwout bearing. I replaced the thrust bearing when I reassembled the engine, and the throwout bearing is only 2 months old. It didn't squeak when I replaced the clutch (2 months ago) and only started after the rebuild.

Does anyone have an idea? Since my father in law installed the throwout bearing I'm wondering if he didn't put the fingers for the bearing in the right place. I haven't climbed underneath yet to check the alignment of the fork and the bearing, but that's coming next. Would the thrust bearing also make this noise? It was a tight fit into the thrust bearing when I installed the tranny, and I'm wondering if there isn't a little bit of interference between the input shaft and the bearing. Any thoughts?
