Body Damage is Cool
|
This just started yesterday. The needle is jumping all over the place. It appears to coincide with possible fuel movement in the tank. What I mean by that is if I'm sitting still it is fixed or driving down the road it moves just a little. However if I apply the brakes or make a turn the needle bounces all over the place and then gradually levels out again.
Is this the sign of a bad sending unit or something else? It has never done anything close to this in 11 years. Thanks.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
My 99 Rodeo had similar problems. I ended up dropping the gas tank and pulling out the fuel pump and sending unit assembly (one combined assembly). The gas gauge is a float mechanism that has a wiper and circuit board. The wiper was worn out and the prongs weren't making contact with the circuit board anymore. I bent the wiper until it made contact and put it all back together. That was back in March of this year. So far so good.
It's not too difficult to do, but you'll want to burn most of the gas out before you drop your tank. I did mine by myself.
I did a post after I was done. Try doing a search on fuel gage or sending unit.
Best of luck.
