'91 4Runner.

Just hoping to get some suggestions on where to wire in my radar detector so that I don't have to use the lighter plug anymore?

Preferably powered with ignition, not accessory.

thanks.

Even though I have a newer model, I think you could do the same thing. I wired my Valentine into the overhead console wiring, as that is keyed on/off. Try testing the wires with the ignition on, then test a hot one with the key off. I then led the wire out the front of the overhead console to the detector. It is possible that the wire I am using is for the power sunroof.
Good luck.

I've got my Escort hardwired in and have a mute button installed in my dashboard so I don't have to reach up to mute it when I pick up radar. Any switched wire will do, but if you're hardwiring for the same reason I did (stealth), I suggest mounting the detector itself up behind the tint strip in front of the passenger side visor. I hardly ever have a passenger, so the visor remains slightly lowered from horizontal to conceal the detector from behind. The only place you can see the detector from outside the truck is from the front, if you're looking for it. I've had conversations with cops at my driver side window without them ever noticing it.

I once had a judge tell me that the cop who cited me for speeding had noted on my ticket that I was using a radar detector, and that "cops don't like to see those" (her words). I took that as fair warning and haven't let 'em see my Escort since then.

Roll Me Over
bring a new circuit into the cab.

then using a relay, tap off the radio harness to quickly find which wire to power the harness.
