Need a Spot
I have an 86 and a 79 CJ7. I will be selling the 86 as soon as I get it painted. I was thinking about swapping the axles because I wanted the wide trak axles on the 79. If I swap them will I be able to swap the hubs from the 79 axles onto the 86 axles? I would just like to have the dana 44 but I still want the 6 bolt hubs. If this is possible will I have problems with the brakes since they are different?

Thanks,
Bryan Rennick

Yes, you can swap the spindle, hub/rotor, and lockouts to the 86 knuckle.

I'm not completely sure with the calipers. The rotors are the same so I think you can use the 86 calipers. I did something similar. I swapped in a widetrac dana 30 and used the 79 spindle/hub/rotor but also bolted the 79 caliper bracket to the widetrac knuckle and used the 79 calipers. I did this because my 79 calipers were almost new and I wouldn't have to bleed brakes.
