I am looking into getting the tranny from which the same vehicle my donor motor came from with 30,000 on it, it is a 99. will my x-fer case bolt up to the tranny? its a r150F i think.

The transmission should be the same model, but the transfer case is different (driver side drop versus passenger side drop) and your transfer case will not bolt up in it's place.

96+ 4wd trannys have the transfer case on the opposite side.

they are practically the same tranny though.

we used the same stock 4wd tranny on the 3.4 swap we did on a 93 truck.

i know the 99 x-fer case wont work because of the driver side drop versus the passenger side drop on my 91, but will the 99 tranny work with the 91 x-fer case? if that tranny wont work then i will have to look for a r150f from a 2nd gen runner or a truck. will a r151f bolt right up to my x-fer case or will i have to get a 4cyl. x-fer case?
Thanks

Harry may be right, but I *thought* that the 5-speed behind the 3.4 was the R150f - same as behind the 3.0. If true, your tcase should bolt right up. But I'm not going to say Harry is wrong either - I just don't know. I'd call Marlin!

I DO know that you cannot bolt a V6 tcase up to a R151F.

If you get the 150 out of the donor vehicle, you could put a 4-cyl case behind it with an adapter from Marlin.

Never mind, I was mistaken. I thought that Marlin sold different adapters for the R150F used behind the 3.0L versus the R150F used behind the 3.4L. According to Marlin's newly redesigned website they use the same adapter.

Sorry for the misinformation!

The 91 Tcase will not fit on the back of the of a 99 tranny. The bolt pattern is different. You can use Marlin's 3.4-4GT adapter. This will allow a top shifting, right hand output, 4Cyl tcase to bolt onto the back of the 99 tranny.

Currently the Marlin Crawler web page only shows the two adapters listed under 2 part number. There are actually 6 different kits. There are 4 different manual transmission conversion plate kits, they are as follows 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 & 3.4. Each kit is different, but all are priced the same ($349)

The web site bunches them together as one item and then the proper kit was sent after talking with the customer and getting the exact engine/tranny info.

I am sorry for the confusion this has caused and I will be changing the web site today to reflect all 6 different kits.

Thanks for the clarification Chris. Since I posted two contridictary statements I knew that I had to be right one of the times.

Why would you need an adapter (24-4GT) to bolt a gear driven case to a 2.4L 5spd?

Also, my understanding was that the R150 to gear driven reduction box adapter in the V6 Tacoma "kit" was the same as the old "V6 adapter" (3.0L) and that just the adapter to go from the reduction box to the Taco case was the new part...

Maybe if you had a G58 tranny on a rig with ADD? Just a guess, those are the only 4 cylinders I know of that don't use the gear driven case.
