yeah i have had both the front and rear blowout and hands down, i would rather have my rear blow..much easier to keep in control.even when i had my rear tire pass me up one day while turning a corner,i hardly noticed it,except for the drop in height <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> but i have to say a rear blowout is alot better

I had a front blow out at about 45mph on my truck with 33"x12.5" tires and it was everything I could do to keep the steering wheel from turning to it's lock on the blown tire side I was holding it with both arms and didn't have to worry about trying to slow down the blown tire was doing that for me. I almost rolled my truck that day. I couldn't have turned it the other way if I had wanted too it was all I could do to hold it straight. a 100lb tire suddenly out of balance and and flat rotating at 45mph convert that into rpmit was pulling so bad to the right I was glad it was on the right if it had been the other side I would have went into head on traffic. apparently after wheeling I had unseated a bead and after driving at speed it let go because when I went to the tire place they put it back on and it was fine except for a few scars. I made em put it on the back.

One thing to think about on a blowout... the tire may come apart enough to where a loose flap of blown away tire may catch on the body, suspension bolts, etc and stop the tire from turning. so not only are you dealing with the loss of stability from the blown tire, but having essentially one of three wheels locked up at high speed and throwing you into a sideways skid..

I read about this on some of the Explorer roll overs that mentioned the blown tire or the long flap of thrown thread on the Firestones wrapping around an axle or catching on the body making it almost impossible to control at high speed.. and once the rear end comes around, it's pretty much a guaranteed roll over..

After talking to my tire dealer I don't even use tire plugs for nail punctures any more.. The concern is if the tire is not patched on the inside, air may get between the layers of the tire and start to delaminate it...

oh yeah I had a friend who had 44"s on a short wheel base truck and when he pulled over he rolled right into the ditch. he had power steering and couldn't turn it back. broke his shoulder and collar bone his was a front blow out.
the bigger the tire the more it will pull the front around so if you do run it I would put it on the back.
