Dynomax Super Turbo #17748 or Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow for 1998-up Rodeo? #364170 12/16/03 08:39 AM

OK, I'm leaning towards the Dynomax but I'n not too sure if that particular one(#17748) fits. I have already ruled out the #17733 one cause it may be too loud for my tastes(and age lol!). I did a search on this muffler but it seems those who have them own a Trooper. Does anyone have one on a 1998-up Rodeo/P-Port?

If i'm out of luck for the above muffler, i'll go with the Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow. I like their sound but I fear it may be a bit to loud for me. The 50 DF is supposed to be their quietest regular size muffler. Anybody with these on their Rodeo/P-Port?

Pipe size will be 2-1/2".

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

The 3.2L in the Rodeo is very similar to the 3.5L in the Trooper, so I would think muffler advice would be applicable to both, FWIW. As you probably have read, I have the 17748 Dynomax Super Turbo and continue to be happy with it...probably the deepest tone a middlin' size V6 is going to achieve.

However, I haven't tried the Flowmaster. I think Hudson Thompson was going to go with the Flowmaster, maybe he can comment unless it hasn't happened yet.

As far as fitment, the 17748 has a fairly long 20" body, plus inlet/outlet. Go here for dimensions:

http://www.dynomax.com/documents/muffler_general_specs.pdf

You will just have to measure the available area yourself. There was plenty of room for it under my Trooper...also you will need to find an experienced exhaust guy who does custom work. The guy who did mine bent all the pipe by eye, no measurements.

If you think the 17733 Dynomax is too loud, the Powervault will be too.

I had the PV on my Trooper and went to the Dynomax. My feeling is that I should have gone with the Dynomax from the beginning. The tone is deeper, I got my low end power back, and it is quiet on the highway. No more drone while cruising at 65 with the Dynomax. The PV made my truck sound like a riced out honda to quote Hudson.

I had a Flowmaster 50series Delta Flow on my Amigo when I had it. That thing was loud. Granted I had the 4cyl and soft top so it sounded like an import. The drone was horrible, but at the time I liked it.

OK, my curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to search for a price on that Dynomax mufflerà

This is a bit of a pain, because the link will not post directly (Sorry).

If you go to PitStopAutoParts.comÆs Dynomax page, and then click on the link that says ôSearch for Dynomax mufflers Hereöà And THEN, instead of entering-in your vehicle information, use the top bar link ôSearch by Part Numberö. --- Search for ô17748ö, and the Dynomax muffler will be the top choice on the list. --- Highlight that one, and click again, and youÆll see that they are selling the Dynomax 17748 for $53.68.

Like I said, itÆs a pain. û But that does sound like a fair price.

Cheers!

It's $42.99 at JEGS:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1276&prmenbr=361

and free shipping too, but there is an "order fee" of around $9. But the more you order, the cheaper it works out to be - I ordered a K&N drop-in along with the muffler, makes it pretty cheap with no tax and such.

if u feel like payin a little extra, the borla starts soundin ok after a week or two, and there's not too much drone, except around 2500-3000 rpm

I'm running the 17748 in my Trooper, it sounds great. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Sadly I had to get rid of my 1996 Trooper 3.2L due to a rusted frame.
