Re: Dynomax Super Turbo #17748 or Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow for 1998-up Rodeo? [Re: FinnTrooper] #364180 12/17/03 09:27 AM

Thanks for the replies guys!!

Another thing., Knowing that the Rodeo has a slightly smaller engine than the Trooper, would you recommend a 2-1/4 muffler(#17747)and pipe instead of the #17748 2-1/2 version?

Would the 17748 have enough backpressure to prevent loss of torque?

Honestly I think that 2.25" would work well. As a matter of fact, I'm told the inner guts of all the Dynomax Super Turbo (except a few that are 3") are 2.25" diameter anyway.

Great news!

I went with the Dynomax 17748 and I love it! Cool sounding growl on start-up and acceleration but quiet at idle. Sounded a little too quiet right after it was done but it got a little more aggressive after it broke in. I noticed a little better acceleration and freeway/passing power too.

Installation was easy as the shop just had to angle the muffler a little. Went with 2-1/2" behind the "Y" back.

Thanks again guys!

"Acceptable loudness" is very subjective, so I'm glad to hear you like it.

How does it sound @ 75mph on the freeway? I'd love go with the PowerVault based on the dyno sheet, but I do too much city driving to have the drone of something that sounds like a hole in my stock exhaust system at 2700 rpms.

I don't want to make a rukus accelerating since whatever I do to this truck to increase horsepower, I'm still moving at a snail's pace compared to a true performance vehicle.

I'm intrigued by a muffler called the Aero-Turbine since they claim it actually accelerates exhuast gas from your system, providing more performance over just a straight pipe, but their dyno sheets don't seem to match up with their cliams.

I'm using their Honda Accord V-6 to base numbers off of, since all the rest of the engines they show are V-8's. The mileage gain seems disproportionate to the miniscule horsepower and torque gains.

I emailed them late last year and never received a response. I've been meaning to call them all week but haven't had the chance. It seems to be a neat idea anyways....

I've got one (one of the longer, heavier, older PowerVault mufflers) on my 2000 3.2 V6 Amigo (same motor in the 98+ Rodeo) and it has a nice louder (than stock) growl that quiets down as the RPM's go up. At highway speed, it's not loud at all. That's one of the things that sold me on the Powevault.

I had been in a similiar Amigo with the Flowmaster and it was so loud across the RPM range that it gave me a blistering headache after 15 minutes of driving. No Exp with the Dynomax so I can't comment there.

HTH,
Dave
