Getting the Wheeling Fever
I can't remember if it was on this forum or not, but IIRC there were some problems with the pinion bearings in '86 Troopers. I remember something about some sort of "squishable" nut or bearing adjustment. But after searching this and other forums for a couple hours, I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is that info available somewhere?

I don't remember hearing about bearing problems in the rear 10-bolts. There shouldn't be many problems, unless it was run low on fluid, or the fluid was contaminated.

Isuzu does use a crush sleeve to adjust pinion bearing pre-load. This goes between the nut and the outer pinion bearing and is a one time use item. If it squished too far, you need a new one. If you have problems, you probably need to have someone look at it. Diffs do not randomly have problems with the bearing preloads or settings. Something else must be wrong.

Good Luck,
Michael

The one I bought last year had a problem, which my dad's mechanic solved by installing a used '87 complete axle (with new brake pad and turned drums). But another '86 has come into my life, and I don't want similar troubles, so I was looking up that crushable sleeve thing which is the only problem I remember about the '86 diff.
