Does the track lock signify that the differential case is the same as an open differential case? I have an aussie locker that fits an open D44 case, would it work in my scout's rear differential?

Not quite. The Trac-lok uses a special carrier, wider in one direction to allow room for the spider gears. Notice the loaction of the clutch packs-on the outside of the spider gears. To retain the carrier and use a lunch box type locker you will need a locker designed for a D44 trac lock equipped carrier. I know there are more, but the only one I KNOW works in this carrier is the Powertrax No-Slip. Unfortunately that unit is almost as expensive as a full Detroit locker. Except you can install it yourself without resetting the gears.

Good Luck
