Getting the Wheeling Fever

i ordered some parts from EB. i am putting on the rings ring now. but i cant figure out which ring goes on the top slot on which one goes on the 2nd slot. because one of the rings has a ridge on it. the dircs. that come with the rings say that you put the ring with the rigde down but it does not say what slot you put it on. does it matter which one. i am doing this right now.
