Not going to beat a dead horse on this one, i know it comes up from time to time.
I need to get a tool box for the T. 98 extended cab. I've run a search, what i need from you fine individuals are names/websites/types of tool boxes y'all may be using or have seen. Given the location of the wheel wells in relation to the back of the cab, choices MUST be limited. To date i haven't found anything i like or that would work w/o Mods. I don't want to mod this thing at all. I also really like the low profile ones. Can any one chime in on what they're using or have seen. Perhaps we can make a list and add it to the FAQ. I can't be the only one on this!!
thanks
B

I have a better built tool box, low profile. The only way to get a good tool box is to modify it. You can do it in about 4 hours. Better Built does make one specifically for the truck, a tundra will work too, but it has almost no cubic footage (I think like 8cuft) since it has to be shallow to fit the wheel wells. I bought a full size and cut the wheel wells my self. This one has 12.5cuft. It's worth it to do the modification. It fills the bed from top to about 2in from the bottom. I needed the deep one to fit my firefighting boots. Better Built has the specific application, but any fullsize box will work with a mod.

For lots of small things I love my side rail box. The bed is still full length and 48" wide for things like bicycles and such. Everything is so accessable. Mine is a "Weatherguard" brand. http://www.knaack.com/static/

Mine is actually a Delta plastic one that is marketed by Craftsman. I've never been able to find a link for it (I looked hard when I was shopping around). It is low profile and somewhat streamlined... ie. there are no square edges and it is rounded off. It opens on the sides and does not go completely to the bed. I didn't want mine to go all the way to the bed so I could still slide plywood sheets and whatnot under it. If you are really interested in knowing more and seeing it, you can view pictures and a brief description on my website. Regards, Joel

I think that I have the same Delta saddle box as Joel, but mine must be for a mini truck because I sit it on the bed floor and its below the rails. Got it at Tractor Supply. I didn't want a saddle box that blocked the rear window. Its light enough that I remove it when I need a full bed. I have it bolted to a bar that I ran across the bed from the tie down hook points. I also use that bar for bicycle tie down connection points.

I bought a UWS (United Welding Service) aluminum toolbox for my 1998 T100 SR5 extended cab. It fits like a glove, holds everything I want it to hold, and looks great. They are out of Florida, I love the logo, a jumping sailfish, now on a truck in the middle of Kansas. The cost was $200, their website is http://www.uwsta.com/special_orders.html, check out the "Blue Series". They were very pleasant to deal with.

Regards, Joel I noticed last week that my version of the same plastic box was letting in rainwater. Turns out it has developed cracks in the plastic where the hinges attach by screws to the box. Stress/age cracks. Mine is no more than 4 years old, probably less. I'm now looking for an aluminum box to fit. Are there any that span the rails perfectly? Like 64.5"-65" wide? Otherwise I may get a compact truck sized one and set it on the bed, or get a 48" chest style.
