Yep, that's it. Mine is the same box, just the compact version. I too liked it ... until now.

The cracks are at the hinge plate and were hard to see (at least with my 45 year old eyes. One of the cracks went from the screw, down to the drainage trough and up the other side a bit. I have since tried unsuccessfully to repair with silicone.

If you can't get the silicone to stick to the plastic, try flame treating it first. No joke. Just make sure you don't start it on fire. Use a propane torch and just pass the flame over the affected area a few times. This will increase the surface tension of the plastic, and will help with adhesion. You can then let it cool and apply the stuff of your choice. Plastics generally have to be surface treated like this for printing, paint, or glues to stick.

Good suggestion! I've ran into that very problem many times in the past... I always just scratched the surface of the plastic all to hell to try & increase the surface area. I'll have to give that a try next time. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks. Actually, I think that the silicone stuck, but there must have been more pervasive cracks that I initially saw.

I may try the flame treatment for entertainment, but I now figure that if its cracking now, it'll only get worse and I'll always be looking in the box for leaks, no peace of mind that my stuff in there isn't rusting or mildewing.

I'm strongly looking at either a 46" alum. bed chest, or a 48.5" bed chest. Both would be mounted up in front of the bed and fit between the wheel wells in the bed. I haven't seen a crossover box that fits well locally. The ones that I've seen measure like they'd stick past the outside of the rails a little, and I don't like that look. My rails are ~65.5" wide. Boxes for the Tundra measure wider than that.

The UWS company offers low profile, standard, extra deep. All of which come in either bright aluminum or black powder coat. I just purchased the standard in bright. It fits perfect and built very well. cost about $200 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

OK, I found the perfect fit tool box for my needs. It's an aluminum crossover box intended for a compact truck. 61" wide single lid, 49" wide lower portion, 20" deep front to back. I sit it on the bed up in the front, so the 49" wide part fits exactly between the wheel humps, no wiggle room at all (maybe even rhinoliner would prohibit a fit). I have it bolted to a bar that I ran across the front tie loops. I like it below the rails so it doesn't block any window, or make it higher to lift stuff tio load.
