I just saw on tv, Lexus claims to have dimpled the underside of their cars to improve aerodynamics and reduce road noise. ..... Suppose rocks banging on the underside of my Trooper have helped improve it's aerodynamics and reduce road noise. If not maybe I haven't dimpled it enough yet

Simply amazing, isn't it? I wonder if I could gain .0005 mpg or so on my Metro by taking a ball peen hammer to the bottom. lol.
Seems like undercoating would royally mess up the aerodynamics on the Lexus, wouldn't it? Oh, that's right, undercoating is simply a low-tech (meaning cheap) way of reducing road noise.
Much too tacky for a Hi-Zoot Luxo car.

i'm thinking if a person could find a way to put a motor and some wheels on a giant golfball then he/she could really be in good shape!!!

It seems ridiculous at first but it does work well for increasing the aerodynamics of golf balls so I can't see why it wouldn't help, theoretically at least. Besides I can't see Toyota increasing production costs through more complex sheet metal stampings if it didn't provide some benifit. I think it's cool that someone took the time to find a new way to tackle and old problem.

Hail damage on the topside doesn't seem to make a noticable difference in mpgs or roadnoise. We need to build a rotisserie, so we can get a free dimple jobs on the underside .

Weren't there some swimsuits that were banned from the Olympics because of a textured surface? I believe that the dimples and/or texture breaks up the surface tension.
