Body Damage is Cool
In the quest to make my truck stand out from the crowd, i have decided it is time to work with the exhaust. I am a big fan of flowmasters and had them on my v6 mustang and they sounds great. Only problem is that tehy are like $80 and then i would still have to get them welded on. So i was looking around wrok yesterday and I discovered that we had Cherry Bomb glass packs for like $15. Anyone have glass packs and can tell me about change in performance and sound??? I am guessing it will sound a lil ricie aka a pissed off bumble bee.

I was thinking about doing the same thing to my truck.. Especially since they're like $18 with my discount. Im going to give it a try when I get my next paycheck. Just have to figure out a way to attach it to the back of my cat.

I can't say anything about the performance aspect (though I assume they're not real restrictive) - but I had a set on a Ford 302 with no cats...sounded awesome <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />. A bit on the loud side, but not distracting.

Glasspacks suck. They are loud and you will stand out in a crowd, but it is a raspy annoying sound. Very ghetto/white trash. Most of the time, you will end up blowing out the little insulation they have and they will sound even worse.

They also do not flow very well. Yes, they are a hollow tube, but a well designed muffler will usually outflow them. Spend a couple extra bucks and find a fully welded muffler. There are brands out there where you are not paying for glossy magazine ads (read: Flowmaster) and they do not drone enough to liquify your brain matter. I believe that Summit has a pretty cheap turbo muffler that I have heard good things about.

Good Luck,
Michael

Im not worried about the loudness portion of it. As of right now, my truck doesnt sound too bad because its just running a cat. But I want to put a glasspack on to see what things sound like. If i dont like it, I can just bolt my flowmaster back to it, or leave as is. My truck doesnt sound like the civics, so Im happy. Plus im looking for a one of a kind sound with it too. Round here, they dont worry bout the loudness of things. Its a pretty rural area.

I have put glasspacks on my rig. Because of the design of the exhust system, after the new low flow cat, there was only room for 18" glasspacks. Loud, but not healty sounding and I have not noticed ANY REAL preformance differance. I am planning on getting them taken off.

See you out there,

I had glasspacks on my truck for a short period of time. I replaced them with some turbo mufflers that costed less than $20 and sound 100% better.

1st there are two types of glass-packs. Chambered and non-chambered. This is were flow and sound comes in. If you want to get a really low tone . Get a NON-chambered glass-pack and put in place of your cat converter. Then put on another muffler , Turbo's work the best. That WILL make a really low rumble. Beleive it or not a non-chambered glass-pack is very close to what a resonator. It is a 2 chambered hush box designed to take the raspy noise out of the exhaust AND prevent kickbacks or pops. I had this set on my 98 SVT Contour. It had a 2.5 V6 and sounded very aggressive for a little 2.5
