varying idle speed, new tach installed - questions #375865 01/08/04 12:50 AM

My idle (now monitored) goes up and down, not on its own.. if I give it gas, the idle remains high after the foot is removed. To get it back down, I have to give the pedal a quick tap and after the idle goes up, it goes back down to normal. I have checked the TB for gunk, and since it was recently cleaned, this doesnt seem to be the cause. Is it my TPS? any other ideas?

please help me out here.

Sounds like mine when the dashpot on/under the TB was sticking. It didn't have enough force when letting off of the throttle to depress it, but blipping the throttle would.

Thought about that too. It seems to be working ok, any good way to clean it if it is dirty? Although when i looked at it seems to be working correctly, dont know exactly what to look for, but it seems to work.

I gave it a few cleanings but ended up just removing it. A good check is to wait until the truck is idleing slightly high, don't blip the throttle, open the hood and seem if you can close the butterfly any farther by hand at the TB.

Disabled the dashpot, no change in problems. Still sticks at high idle. Anyone..
