I found a military front today, will this work on my 86 4x4 that has the newer 4x4 setup with the CV joints on two a arms. I noticed that two long shafts go from the front of the arms half way back the frame. I definitely donÆt have these mounts on my frame. My suspicion is that it will not work. If this is the case, will the two bodyÆs ôCab, bed, extàö all change over to the other frames very easily?

Solid axle will fit, with a solid axle swap. Do a search, it's pretty involved, but worth it if you wheel alot. check www.allprooffroad, www.aor4x4.com, and www.sky-manufacturing.com for SAS kits.

Can you take some pics of what you got? I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to see it.
Thanks

Looks like allot of work. Is there a easy way to-do this? Or is there a shop to do this in Indiana? [quote] Solid axle will fit, with a solid axle swap. An 87 does not have Solid Axle...must be IFS. Solid Axle does not have CV Joints. Am I reading it right, or am I dreaming?

Yes, at the Junk yard the paint on the door said 1987. I was wondering that too. My truck is 1986 with independent front end.

Well lets see, truck is in the boneyard, says 87' on it. Since nobody ever does SAS's...lol. More than likely previous owner did the swap in the 87' before totalling the rig. If what you seen at the boneyard resembles the pictures you seen in the SAS writeups...then yes its been done already and is what you will have to do to convert yours. PS- They discoverd the madcow came from Canada, although two of her calves made it to Washington. Still had to put down the entire herd of 400+ though. But at least I aint gotta eat chicken every night of the week anymore!

OR...........here we go.......it could have replacement doors on it . Check to make sure the VINs match. I bet it has replacement doors and is really an 85. I doubt you'd find a SAS'd truck at a junk yard. People tend to keep these rolling as long as possible.

Wether it is an SAS, or Factory rig, the axle will fit under your '86. However as you have noticed it is a quite involved project to do the swap. Since it sounds like you either don't have the ability/time/or necessary desire to do the swap yourself, expect to pay a shop upwards of 3k to do the work for you. However, to answer your other ? about swapping the bodies, it is a less technical job, but a bit time consuming, but is something you could do yourself relatively easy. This is the route I would go, as long as the frame of the one in the wrecking yard is straight. This would save you a ton of $$$.
