Would any of you have an idea as to why my '94 YJ 4 cyl. would blow iol out the dipstick tube? I can't find any place else it could have come from.

I'm no expert by any means, but...
sounds like it is building up pressure in the crankcase, and the oil is escaping through the dipstick tube. you might want to check/replace the PCV valve (they're cheap)and make sure the Crankcase vent is not plugged. It could be that the rings are bad and the pressure from the cylinders is leaking by and overpressurizing the crankcase.

I agree about the pcv (positive crankcase vent). If you remove it and shake it, you should hear a ball rattling inside. If not you can run some carb. cleaner through it to clean it.

I'm sure Sunder will have good ideas on this. (he has helped me tremendously on my truck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

for starters how many miles? if it is high milage you are going to have lots of blow by + the high probability of a clogged crank case breather. there should be 2 on your vehicle the one on the back of the valve cover is just a breather tube. disconnect it from the air box and see if you can suck(be carefull not to use your longs just do it with your mouth/cheeks that air in there is some nasty sh$%) if it is clogged you can either try and unclog it with a bent paper clip or order a new one. the one on the front is sort of on the side and conects to manifold vacume through a "metering orafcae" it is not a PCV valve it should not rattle. usually what happens is the metering oraface gets cloged and no longer pulls crank gases through to the engine after a while the breather is over loaded and clogges too, forcing the execess gas to get out however it can. so first clean up the breather that will stop the oil from coming out the dipstick tube. then take out the vacume "metering oraface" and clean it out, or just buy a new one. I modified mine with a bigger hole because i have so much dang blow by, its really easy just drill a bigger hole the engines don't have a mass airflow sensor so the added vacume load won't do much to the engine.

I will check the PVC. Thanks.
But would this cause it to blow out a quart of oil in 20 minutes?

out the dipstick tube? really really plugged up CCV and good seals on the engine, or improper oil level.

The engine is in good shape, only 84,000 miles and this is the first problem I have had with it. I did however let it sit for about a month before this happened. Would that contribute?

I checked the CCV hose today and it was almost completely clogged by what looked like a combination of water and sludge. It has been below 32 deg. here for the past week. I warmed it up and cleaned it out. Could this have caused the problem??

most definatly. did you check both? the breather will allow the crank case to vent but it vents to the air box, then your air filter gets all messed up and oiled. if the vacume portion is cleaned up to so that it sucks niceand strong then you won't have to worry about oil in the air cleaner.
