That is quite a bit of oil in a short amount of time. Does the oil come out from only the dipstick or around other areas too.. i.e. valve covers, oil pan, pvc grommet, rear main? Is there any black/grey smoke comming out of the exhaust pipe?

The best I can tell, it was only from the dipstick tube. There is a slight bit of oil around the valve cover but it is reall hard to tell where it came from. The whole right side of my engine compartment is covered with oil. No smoke from the exhaust pipe at all.

I had a similar prob, but my tubes were clear. Ended up that a square inch chunk of metal had broken/failed on a piston......Have you tried a compression test on each cylinder to see if you have a ring/piston prob?

i bet it's just the tubes if the engine were down a cyl. especcially with a 4 banger it would be noticable. the dipstick sits below the level of oil when the engine is running any amount of pressure escapeing through the dipstick will force alot of oil out with it.

Okay, it did it again this am, I stopped and checked the CCV tube and it was completely blocked by ice (it was about 13 deg.). Why would there be ice/water in the tube??

sounds like you are picking up water into the crank case when you are driving, I would flush out the entire crank case...twice and if it happens again you have a condensation problem or water is being suked into the crank case some how

do you blow smoke or ny thing else from the tail pipe you could possible have a cracked head gasket that is allowing water to get int your oil.

The engine is in good shape, only 84,000 miles and this is the first problem I have had with it. I did however let it sit for about a month before this happened. Would that contribute?

for the month that it sat was it blelow freezing outside for that month and was it really cold the day you started it and now for a silly question...you did have antifreeze and not just water in the radiator ..right?
