In spite of Consumers Unions' crusade against the Trooper in the 1990s, the Consumer Reports reliability reports of a few years ago showed mid to late '90s Troopers as the 'most reliable' SUV in the CR owner survey results, by a wide margin.

One of the main reasons we bought our 1998 Trooper, and the 1996 Troop that was replaced by the '98, was what I perceived to be the outstanding reliability and build quality of the Trooper.
