i don't know about everyone else but i don't use mine for bad weather driving. i use them strictly for more light on night runs. i have lost too many lights to brush and rocks off my front bumper so i like the fact my lights are up and out of the way by the front winshield posts. just my reasoning.

I was out driving on the island a while back when the fog came in. All the spotlight and truck lights did was make such a glare that I couldn't see.

I wish I had some bumper mounted fog lights on that run. It seems to me that if you put the lights right up under the windshield, in fog or rain, the light will just reflect back into your eyes.

Just my .02.

So, what about maybe trying cutting out two rectangles in my bumper and maybe recessing some low-profile beams in there. Down low and away from rocks and such. Sound feasible? If I make a couple upside-down U-shaped cuts in the bumper and bend them in and then just mount my lights to the folded-in tabs? Too cheese?

It's a stock bumper, so we know bending it won't be a problem, right?

Depends on what you want. Do you want fog lights or do you want off road lights? If you want fog lights for your jeep (?), put them low. If you want off road lights, put 'em where ever you want, including the windshield. Higher the better if you are going through brush, etc. Personally, I wouldn't put fog lights by the windshield (or on the bumper, but that's me...).

Why so high up? Isn't is better to "backlight the bad weather"? I mean, send light as directly to the road as possible and then through the diffractive medium (be it rain, snow, fog, whatever) to your eyes instead of through it twice?

You are on the right track there. It has to do with the light refraction. Fog light you do want low to minimize glare. I'm sure you have seen light shine through a prizm and create a rainbow effect on a wall. Fog is similar in the fact that water is made up of a bunch of these guys all around ya. If ya have 'em high they will be kissin your eyeballs The good old standby of an amber light low on the bumper is a keeper.
