I was wondering if anyone on here has a 'write up' on how to mount and most specifically HOW to get the wires from the outside into the cab when you mount the 6" 5" round lights on the lower part of the windshield using the mount that generally runs around $20.00

Or please just inform me if there is an 'easy' way to run the wires into the cab. Sorry I'll admit I haven't taken an extensive look into this for my friends want to put these on his jeep..

Thanks

I am thinking what you are really asking is DO YOU HAVE TO DRILL A HOLE IN THE WINDSHIELD FRAME?.....uhhhh...I drilled a hole through the frame, sealed the wound with paint to prevent corrosion, and then put RTV around the wire conduits.(flexible chrome coming off the under side of the KCs) I then ran the wires along the side of the dash on both sides, and covered them with a flexible quarter moulding. Under the dash to your switch you are on your own. Good Luck....Mike <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />

Yep that is what I'm looking for. I wanted to know HOW to get the wires inside. I'm not and I'm sure my friend won't be to keen on drilling a hole in the frame of the windshield to get the wires inside though. Once inside I should be ok to find someplace to run the wires. I was just trying to determine how to get the wires inside.

I have mine wired without holes, but it may not be all that pretty. I lowered the windshield, unscrewed the rubber/foam gasket, and ran the wires below the gasket to a hole above the steering wheel. Just dropped them down. Screwed the gasked back in place, put the window up, and done. My metal conduit runs to the gasket at the edge of the windshield, but not under. It may not win any awards, but it gets the job done. They have gone through brush, etc. and haven't pulled out or had any other problems.

Not that I am aware of. The wires are compressed with the foam gasket. When the windshield goes up, the foam appears to pinch it securely. You could run a line of sealant along the edge if you wanted. I say not that I'm aware of because my top stays in storage. When it rains, the jeep stays in the garage.

Here's a writeup/review I put online:

http://www.offroaders.com/info/tech-corner/project-cj7/project-cj-7-lightforce.htm

For the wires, I just snaked them around the windshield frame past the softtop door seal and down behind the dash. No need to drill any holes.

Now, I don't want to be THAT guy.

You know, the one who's always gettin' all hair-splitty and such, but...and correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't a better place for your foglights be as close to the ground as possible?

Why so high up? Isn't is better to "backlight the bad weather"? I mean, send light as directly to the road as possible and then through the diffractive medium (be it rain, snow, fog, whatever) to your eyes instead of through it twice? I realize this is highly off-topic, but I've always kinda wondered about this. So the lights are probably great for clear weather, better peripheral lighting and all, but how useful are they in bad? This applies to over cab light bars as well.

Yeah, I was one of those kids that drove their folks crazy with questions. My sunday school teacher wasn't too crazy about me either.
