ok, the differences are actually more than meets the eye. the pipe bender actually FOLDS the pipe, but because of the way pipe is made, it won't fold, so it curves. the tubing bender draws the tubing through against a curved die and lays the tubing along the die's surface as it goes. pressure is spread out over the length of tubing rather than concentrated in one spot. the other major difference is that pipe sizes are taken from the inside diameter and tubing sizes are taken from the outside diameter, meaning, the dies for bending pipe and tubing will be different sizes, even though they may both have the same size stamped on them. the major difference and reason for using tubing over pipe and DOM tubing over HREW or welded seam tubing (regular tubing) is for strength and flexibility. pipe will not flex, it will snap in the event of a hard roll-over, tubing will either bounce, bend or flex enough to absorb most impacts without breaking, in fact, it will likely tear before it snaps. i don't know about you, but i would not like to be tumbling upside down with a jagged piece of pipe near my head.

We usually don't bend that thick of a material do to excess in weight. I saw a bender at a local hardware store for 175 and it included most of the things neede. I did not see if it included the base. I thought it was a great price for a start equipment.

Hey I have an idea, DON'T ROLL! Dave about how much was that tubbing bender. When my boy get his engine back it should run 12s and we will have to build a cage to run at the local drag strip. While I'm at it I might as well make one for the Kia. Dennis

heheh..... don't roll..... that's funny, dennis....
no, seriously, i want the protection just in case something as unfortunate as a roll could occur, but also, i have been thinking that if everything turns out the way i am hoping it will with my SAS and all that, i may just decide to enter the next NARCA comp here in Texas and it will be required that i have a cage.
the bender i posted above is a JD2 model 3 bender and it is about 300 bucks, but the bending dies are seperate and they cost almost as much as the bender, if i remember correctly. they have a website with their phone number, just do a search for JD2 and then give them a call to be sure about pricing.

Dave,
Your custom strut spacers wouldn't happen to fit a Sorento, would you know? I just need a couple more inches....

Hey,
I'll take a very close look under my dad's Sorento tomorrow and let you know about possible spacers. I'm familiar with such things and I'll see if I can get you some sort of recommendations or measurements.

hey, that would be great! If I can just a couple more inches of ground clearance, I'd be happy. Then, of course, I'd want to make some sort of front sway bar disconects, new rear shocks......

Dave,

I just need a couple more inches.... i just make a mount, not a spacer, but i could make spacers. i doubt what i have now will fit. as long as i had access to a sorento to take measurements and such from, i'd be able to build almost anything suspension-related, except coils, but i got a co. that does them a little cheaper than most.
