I got the pix. That's exactly what it is. A cold start assist injector right into the front of the intake manifold. U.S./Canadian Sportages 1997 and newer don't have this. And I'm not even sure if 1995 and 1996 U.S. Sportages have it either.

Dave...you want to post this pix if I send it to you? Does your '95 have this?

Hey Axe,

While we're waiting on Dave could you send me that pic real quick? By the descriptions I'm pretty sure my '96 doesn't have this part, but I'd love to see a pic all the same.

The relatively few Sportages sold here up to 01 were all made in Korea. So I would assume those earlier models, such as mine, were fitted that way for Korean use(cold winters), and they couldn't be bothered to remove them just for the Philippines. But I would think this part would show up on other exported units from that time as well

And what about the 3 questions from my last post? Any thoughts?

A) I dunno; mine's an automatic, but by removing the IAC device you took away some control the ECU had over the mixture.
B and C) You are probably running a slightly rich mixture now. The old IAC valve may have been leaking and bleeding air all the time, which would explain the idle problems you saw. You may have gotten the same benefit by removing the IAC valve and cleaning it out with some carburetor cleaner.

As I stated earlier according to Kia they were advised to take them all out because even when they put new ones in the same problem would reappear after a short time. So apparently, at least in warm climates, they were more trouble than they were worth.

Thanks for the pic, Axe. As I had suspected I don't have this part. I'm bummed. I was hoping I did. I guess that I'll just have to eventually get a chip. Is there any Sportage owner out there who has a chip? I know they're expensive, but someone has to be trying one out.
