what is this rev-limiter/RPM-thing y'all 're talking about? what does it do? etc.
The rev-limiter is software in the engine management computer that limits the maximum RPM the engine will operate at under normal conditions. It keeps you from over-reving the engine. And it's set at 6700 RPM. 200 RPM above the engine redline of 6500 RPM.

i meant the RPM hold-thing, never heard of it.
funny, now that i know what it is, i have seen it do odd things occasionally, like immediately after an oil change, it will rev high for about 10-15 seconds, then calm down to about 1000, then if you tap the gas a little, it drops to about 900.
so, i don't understand, if a few of you have had success with getting more power out of your Sportage by either disconnecting the IAC plug or by gutting the unit itself, why am i getting nothing but a little rough idle at start-up? i supposedly have OBD-1, just like you, here, and whoever else has done this, but i get no noticable increases and no smoother idling than i had before, so what gives?

Any psychologist in the forum? Could that be mass hysteria of OBD1 owners?

I'm not seeing performance gains from this mod as well.
I have a '95 with OBD-I.
It did idle lower, and the revs did not hold like they did. Other than that, it stumbles on startup and doesn't feel any better.

I'm not convinced that plugging the hoses or gutting/disconnecting the IAC is a good idea for the simple reason that doing that completely takes away a function that the IAC exists for and that the ECU controls. Considering the mutually opposing issues of smooth idle, emissions control, drivability, and so forth, I would rather limit the function of the IAC bleeding air into the intake manifold than defeat the function entirely. Thus, my trials with various size openings in the IAC air circuit. Don, y'all .

ok, a few comments 1. the tube that does not have any relation with the IAC is the vapors from the oil sump. 2. I did the test. It started a little more difficult but when I repeat it with the gas pressed slightly wile cranking was ok. Stable idle, large improvement on throtle response, noticable improvement on the speed of increasing revs. 3. refering to Daves' remarks could engine imrovements reduse the effect? ex. I run stock air filter Dave has KN e.t.c.

Just came from Kia after work today. They adjusted the air mix so that my rpms are a little higher now -no stumbling now. As for cold start -coincidently to what you just said Fokion, I found out you need to give the gas pedal a decent pump before startup - I had misunderstood the guy earlier and thought he meant just a little nudge. I'll try that tomorrow. Everything else -steady idle, quieter engine, better acceleration, has been very worthwhile.
Oh yeah -almost forgot. found out they didn't gut the IAC -they just removed the female side of the connector where it plugs in.
