OK guys this mod officially didn't work for me! I guess my IAC works better when it is connected
I didn't have crazy idle problems but I do have annoying RPM hold when shifting IF the AC is on.
Disconnecting the IAC caused my idle (no AC) to drop from 1000 RPM to about 800 RPM, which is a dubious benefit... I don't see how this is such a great thing. Then, when I turn on my AC, BLEH, the engine stumbles and dies. Horrible.. Not worth it. BTW I drove around with the IAC disconnected, and with the AC off I noticed NO difference in revving or the way the car drove. With the AC on, the car would die when I came to a stop, but the RPM hold was gone. I'd rather live with the RPM hold; I think this is a pointless mod for me.
By the way, in case you wonder, it was about 105 degrees F outside when I was doing this testing, so it's not a matter of cold weather... I am not sure how you guys got better performance from disconnecting the IAC plug but for me, this was the kind of mod that only screws up your car

i tried this oldie tip, disconect the iac sensor and now its working for me. In the idle time no more 800 rpm, driving feel better, and much better fuel consumption too. ![[Linked Image]](http://publicidad.prensalibre.com.gt/images/iac.jpg)

For an old thread this is an absolute beauty!!! I've been through a lot of the processes here and learnt that here in OZ the 97 - 99 models are OBD-1 and have the old IAC. I tried to just disconnect the plug which CEL'ed straight away but it did have all the benefits but idled lower. Can't disassemble the guts or bypass it so I put an Aussie 5cent piece in the inlet side hose with a 5/32 or 4mm hole drilled through. With the plug re-connected the engine idles beautifully, no CEL and the power gain and throttle response is all there. YEEE-HAAAW!!!. Wonder if I should bring this thread up as a new one to refresh newcomers like me on such a wonderful idea.... EDIT - The cold weather is only a bit of a problem, just a little extra throttle on starting for quick warmup, and that's close to freezing temperatures.

As the originator of 'The Longest Thread' I thought it only fitting to add a concluding (?) remark, even years later. There are, after all, plenty of old Sports alive and kicking. Here in the Philippines, thousands have been chopped and shipped from Korea to start a new life since '07. Having just reread all the posts I can only say I am happy that little mod made such a difference for OBD-1 Sportage owners in warm climates. It may still be useful to new 2nd hand owners! And I still miss my 1st Sportage, with the 2" lift, Monroes and Geolanders. Had a lot of fun with it
